Syd Merz
A native Nebraskan, Syd Merz will have no problem talking about Nebraska football or sharing stories about Peace Corps experiences. Prior to joining the Cleveland Indians talent development team in 2019, she spent a portion of her career working in intercollegiate athletics, followed over 10 years as an educator, researcher, and/or trainer in various international and domestic education settings.

She served as a volunteer in the US Peace Corps twice (Armenia, Philippines); experiences that continue to provoke learning and deep reflection. The past six years, she has warmed her heart through her coaching and involvement in Special Olympics, where she has served as an athlete leader mentor, coach, and local coordinator. She continues to be involved in Special Olympics as it provides an inclusive space for our athletes to shine both professionally and personally.

She loves learning, reading, puzzling, the outdoors, traveling, meeting people, and trying new things. She has earned a PhD in Education, M.Ed. in Adult and Higher Education, along with BSE in Recreation and Leisure studies. She currently resides in Strongsville, Ohio.
